About Sans Souci

Rachel France is a vocalist and musician. Originally from the South Island, Rachel now performs all around New Zealand with her partner Tom Callwood. She can interpret a wide range genres, including French Chanson. She is known in particular for her interpretations of French legend Edith Piaf, with songs such as La vie en rose and Je ne regrette rien. Rachel interprets profound and poignant songs, but with up-beat and playful arrangements.

For this performance, Rachel will be accompanied by her partner, Tom Callwood, on double bass. Tom is an extremely well-known jazz musician who has played with many jazz bands. In 2005, Tom formed a band called "Little Bushman" with two other musicians, Warren Maxwell and Rick Cranson. In 2012, Callwood left Little Bushman to join The Phoenix Foundation, an indie-rock band formed in Wellington in 1997.
